9U Grandslam

Grand Slam is the official 9U program for Baseball Manitoba. This Baseball Canada Program is designed to develop skills in our young players by reducing team sizes and encouraging touches of the baseball through practice and game situations.

The Grand Slam Program is designed to promote physical development of children through the game of baseball. The program helps develop physical literacy by using a modified game to teach the basic baseball skills to children and ensure success. The program is designed for children of eight and nine and consists of four categories of activity fit into two seasons. .

Grand Slam Goals
1. Create a healthy environment in which children of various levels of ability find pleasure in learning baseball
2. Initiate or pursue the development of basic baseball skills and strategies for players
3. Teach and develop sportsmanship in a context of healthy competition
4. Develop and promote self-esteem in children

General Information 
 
There are no hard and fast rules for Grand Slam. Baseball Canada has put forth guidelines; teams of 6, all players in the infield, all players bat each inning, no walks or strikeouts, etc. Typical game days could include a 15-30 minute practice and then a game with another team afterward. 60-90 minutes total. Baseball Manitoba can also provide stickers and sticker books for players depicting famous Canadian baseball players - awarded for successfully completing categories, within Grand Slam.

Grand Slam Jamborees

In mid June around 2,500 children, 9 years of age and under will participate in a Regional Grand Slam Jamboree. Each region will host at least one Jamboree highlighting this province wide program that features the use of a pitching machine to promote a high level of fun activity in a safe learning environment.

The intent is for Jamborees to be held in every region of the province in June. Ideally several local communities within each region will stage their own Jamborees. Each Jamboree will be participatory in nature and is designed to lessen the competitive focus. The program is formatted to promote fun and fellowship, as all teams will play several games throughout the day without the need to declare a champion.

There will be a draw within each region to randomly select a team, which will participate in a Provincial Grand Slam Jamboree at Shaw Park on July 8, 2023.
